A 65% Sand Save Rate Would Put You at #1 on the PGA Tour

While we train to build confidence that we are going to get up and down around the greens, it is critical to not be too hard on yourself when you do not.

Bunkers are a great example. Many believe that the pros get up and down virtually every time out of the bunker. The TV broadcast has a tendency to just show the spectacular bunker shot and spares players TV time for the shots they may leave in the bunker (yes, that happens even to the pros).

The stats tell the true story. In the 2021 season, Brooks Koepka led the PGA Tour with a 65% sand save rate. A 50% rate would be good enough to get you into the top 100 of players on the tour! And these stats are out of bunkers that are meticulously maintained unlike what most amateur golfers see during a typical round.

So do not put excessive pressure on yourself to get up and down out of every bunker. Have confidence, but do not be hard on yourself!
